Listed on the National Register of Historic Places on January 11, 2010, Chandler Mill Bridge is a built-up steel plate through girder bridge built in 1910 for Chester County on a farm-to-market road connecting area farms and mills to market centers such as Kennett Square. Because it replaced an earlier township bridge, it reflects the increasing role of counties in bridge building as transportation demands grew. Designed by County Engineer Nathan R. Rambo and constructed by George Dole, it exemplifies Rambo's frequent use of hand-laid stone wingwalls with through girder bridges. This bridge type was widely used on roads throughout Chester County from about 1890 through the 1930s as a cost-effective way to provide safe, strong bridges. Chandler's Mill stood near the bridge's northeast corner, and remnants of its millrace remain visible on the bridge's north side parallel to Chandler Mill Road.
