Mount Dickerman, in Washington’s Mount Baker-Snoqualmie National Forest near Barlow Pass, is a well-known hiking destination in the North Cascades. A strenuous four-mile trail leads from the Mountain Loop Highway to a summit with broad views of Glacier Peak, Monte Cristo Peak, and Sloan Peak, connecting it to some of the region’s most recognized scenery. The mountain was named for Alton L. Dickerman, a consulting geologist for the Monte Cristo Mining Company who lived from 1850 to 1921. Its setting reflects the western North Cascades’ marine west coast climate, with heavy winter rain and snow, clearer summer weather, and a dense snowpack that brings notable avalanche danger.
