The Zack L. Whitaker House is a National Folk I-house style residence with a front entry pediment and exterior chimneys. It was built for a local family and was purchased in 1937 by Z. L. ("Col. Zack") Whitaker, a teacher and administrator at Oak Ridge Military Institute for more than 50 years. The house remained in the Whitaker family for 60 years.
