Isaac Thomas was a soldier of the American Revolution, a trader with the Indians, and a scout to Kings Mountain who carried Nancy Ward’s warning to the Watauga settlers, saving the lives of Tennessee pioneers from massacre by the Indians. He was the first settler in Sevier County. His home, located one half mile west, was the site of the county’s first court. He was also the original grantee of the land on which Murphy Collegiate Institute is located.
