White Cloud's community honor roll preserves the names of local veterans who served during World War II and reflects a broader county effort to honor all Newaygo County veterans who have served in the armed forces. The original honor roll was created by Charles Johnson from 1941 to 1945 and stood on the courthouse lawn during World War II; it was re-created by Byron R. Fowler in 2006. For many years it stood alone at the corner where Veterans Memorial Park now stands. In 2008, members of the Vietnam Memorial Moving Wall Committee and the Newaygo County Board of Commissioners sought a permanent place for the flags flown when the Vietnam Memorial Moving Wall was displayed in White Cloud. The board provided the land, and veterans, volunteers, and county maintenance staff landscaped and improved the site, creating Veterans Memorial Park to honor county veterans. The park flies the United States flag, the POW/MIA flag, and the flags of the Marine Corps, Navy, Army, Air Force, and Coast Guard. Contributions to the park included the flag display, the honor roll sign, a killed in action silhouette, a Blue Star Memorial By-Way plaque, and additional landscaping, with continuing maintenance by county staff and veteran volunteers.
