DC-3/C-47 "Skytrain"

The Douglas C-47 Skytrain, the military version of the DC-3, was the most commonly used transport in the allied air forces during WW II. This C-47D, serial number 44-118427, was originally serial number 44-76462 and is on loan from the U.S. Air Force Museum Program. The C-47 was stationed at Pope AFB under the Air Transport Command from 1942-1946. It had two 1200 hp turbo-charged P&W Twin Wasp engines, a crew of two pilots and one radio operator, a length of 64 feet, a wingspan of 95 feet, a cruising speed of 185 mph, a range of 1500 miles, and a gross weight of 31,000 lbs.
