The 82d Infantry Division was activated on 25 August 1917, reactivated on 25 March 1942, and reorganized and redesignated as an airborne division on 15 August 1942. Its campaigns included Lorraine, St. Mihiel, Meuse-Argonne, Sicily, Naples-Foggia, Anzio, Normandy, Holland, Ardennes, Central Europe, the Dominican Republic, Vietnam, Grenada, Panama, the Persian Gulf, Afghanistan, and Iraq. Honoring its dead, it is remembered as an enduring division that lives in the hearts of men, with young men continuing to accept the challenge to “Stand Up and Hook Up” and know the pride and strength that come with it. “Greater love Hath no man than this, That a man lay down his Life for his friends.” John 15:13
