The first Fairhope pier was built in 1895. In its early years, the wooden pier served as a commercial dock for bay boats. The first concrete pier was built in 1968 and remained in use until it was severely damaged by Hurricane Ivan in 2004 and Hurricane Katrina in 2005. After renovations, the Fairhope Pier reopened on November 22, 2006.
