Yanticaw Park
Nature
Yanticaw Park in Nutley, New Jersey, is an Essex County park along the Third River that grew from local demand for public green space. Essex County began acquiring land in 1911, draining wetlands and building a dam to form a lake, and completed the park in 1914. Its design changed significantly in 1962, when the lake and its small island were removed and replaced by a channel following the river’s natural course. Divided by Park Drive into Girls' Park and Boys' Park, it now serves as a busy recreation area with playgrounds, athletic fields, and nearby school use, reflecting its shift from engineered landscape to community park.
