Solomon Blatt Sr. was born in Blackville on February 27, 1825, the son of Nathan and Mollie Blatt. He was regarded as a courageous gentleman and statesman who loved Blackville and all its citizens. No other Blackville citizen had been honored as he had been, and he showed his gratitude in many ways. The site is where his father ran a mercantile business for nearly 50 years.
