Duncan Beard, a Delaware clock-maker of great distinction and silversmith, lived and labored here for about thirty years until his death in 1797. He was a prominent member of Old Drawyers Presbyterian Church. In 1776, he made a contract with the State of Delaware for the manufacture of gun-locks.
