Nature
Pitcher Mountain is a 2,153-foot monadnock in southwest New Hampshire that rises prominently above the surrounding terrain. The 50-mile Monadnock-Sunapee Greenway crosses it, and its open summit offers sweeping 360-degree views. Northern hardwood forest covers the lower slopes, while small stands of red spruce survive near the top. A fire tower stands on the summit, and a beef livestock farm occupies the mountain’s east shoulder. Pitcher Mountain is also part of a broader landscape of heath barrens and blueberry fields extending across nearby hills. Its watersheds split, with runoff reaching both the Atlantic Ocean by way of the Merrimack system and Long Island Sound through the Connecticut River.
