Cold River Bridge, or McDermott Bridge, is a historic covered bridge in eastern Langdon, New Hampshire, and one of the state’s few surviving nineteenth-century covered bridges. Built in 1869 by Albert Granger after a flood destroyed the previous 1840 bridge, it is believed to be the fourth bridge at this crossing, following earlier spans recorded in 1789 and 1814. The single-span modified Town lattice truss, reinforced with a laminated arch, carried vehicles until 1964, when a modern bridge replaced it for road traffic. Rehabilitated in 2008, it reopened for pedestrians, reflecting both a long local crossing history and efforts to preserve New Hampshire’s covered bridges.
