The Rhinesmith Building
History
1
The Perry House Tavern was erected in 1826, and the first classes of New Bloomfield Academy were held in a room above the bar. The Rhinesmith family operated the hotel from 1895 to 1945. Later owners provided space for apartments, the first Perry County State Police office, a telephone exchange, a meat market, law offices, and a dress factory. The county acquired the building in 1973, remodeled it, and in 1986 it became county offices.
