Ephraim M. Baynard built several commercial buildings and at least two residences in the City of Auburndale. After the great fire of 1915 destroyed Auburndale's business district, he eventually rebuilt his commercial building on East Park Street in 1926, and an addition to the original building was constructed in 1932. The name "Baynard" appears on the cornice in reference to its original owner. Over many years, ornamental details were added in an attempt to impart a Mediterranean Revival style. The building housed professional offices, restaurants, and local retail and service businesses, and the Park Movie Theater, Auburndale's first commercially operated motion picture establishment, was located there.
