Garden Point Methodist Church was founded on this site in 1934 after Sam Wiggins, a Methodist preacher from the Jonesboro district, held a tent revival here from which the church evolved. On September 2, 1935, Chapman and Dewey Land Co. deeded land to the church members for construction, and with financing from early members of the community, a white frame church was erected and completed in 1935. The small church grew into a landmark for Mississippi county, hosting church services, revivals, weddings, funerals, and community gatherings. In 1966, Garden Point and Riverside Methodist, established in the late 1920's, merged into one congregation. Garden Point continued serving its community until June of 1993, when the small rural congregation closed the church for the last time, after which the buildings were sold and the land was donated to the Garden Point Cemetery Association.
