Young Lick is a mountain in northeastern Georgia whose summit, Young Lick Knob, rises to 3,809 feet at the meeting point of Habersham, Rabun, and Towns counties. One of Habersham County’s highest points, it is crossed by the Appalachian Trail. Its greatest significance is geographic: the knob is a triple-divide peak on the Eastern Continental Divide. Rain falling there separates into three major drainage paths, with water flowing northeast to the Savannah River basin and the Atlantic Ocean, southeast through the Chattahoochee and Apalachicola rivers to the Gulf of Mexico, or west through the Hiawassee, Tennessee, Ohio, and Mississippi systems to the Gulf by a much longer route.
