The Mary W. Adams House in Highland Park, Illinois, is a 1905 Frank Lloyd Wright design built for Mary W. Adams, a widowed teacher in the Christian Science movement and Wright’s oldest client at age 70. This two-story Prairie-style home uses stucco, wood trim, and diagonal corner buttresses to emphasize the long horizontal lines central to Wright’s work. A revised, less costly plan opened the dining room and removed one porch. The house retains notable original features, including a restored Roman brick fireplace and Wright-designed storage building, and later restoration based on his original plans helped secure local and national historic recognition.
