Cuttyhunk Light stood at the west end of Cuttyhunk Island, Massachusetts, marking an exposed point important to navigation. First established in 1823, it was rebuilt several times over the years. The last lighthouse erected there, in 1891, was a 45-foot tower equipped with a 5th order Fresnel lens. The Great Atlantic Hurricane of 1944 badly damaged the tower and destroyed the keeper’s house. In 1947 the lighthouse was removed and replaced with a skeleton tower that continued operating until 2005. Only a stone oil house survives from the station today, lacking both door and roof.
