Demarest Lloyd State Park in Dartmouth, Massachusetts, is a 200-acre protected stretch of Buzzards Bay shoreline near the mouth of the Slocums River, combining a sandy ocean beach with seaside marshlands. The land entered public ownership in 1953 through a gift from the family of Angelica Lloyd Russell and was named for her father, Demarest Lloyd Sr., and her brother, Demarest Lloyd Jr., a Navy fighter pilot killed over Guam in World War II. Known for its 600-yard beach, calm surf, shallow water, and warm summer temperatures, the park also supports coastal birdlife in its marshes and offers swimming, birdwatching, fishing, boating, picnicking, and walking trails.
