Big Horn Peak is a 9,935-foot summit in Montana’s Gallatin Range, about 40 miles south of Bozeman, on the boundary between Yellowstone National Park and Gallatin National Forest. Part of the Rocky Mountains, it stands at the edge of a nationally significant protected landscape and is distinguished by steep local relief, rising sharply above nearby creeks. Its slopes drain into both the Yellowstone and Gallatin river systems, making it part of an important watershed divide. Reached from the Sky Rim Trail by a short spur, the peak lies in a remote subarctic setting with long, very cold winters. Its name was officially adopted in 1930.
