In 1919, a group of public-spirited citizens envisioned Victory Park as a memorial to World War I veterans. The existing park, known as Kern's Grove, included a ball field and woodlands. The community-funded park was dedicated on July 4, 1921, during a daylong festival. It was used extensively for picnics, dances, big band concerts, and family reunions. Roller-skating took place in an open-air covered pavilion, which was destroyed by fire in the late 1960s. Slatington's football and baseball teams played there until the dedication of Alumni Field in 1962. The community swimming pool opened in 1963.
