Established in the early 1830s, the old Brandon cemetery contains more than 1,000 graves, including those of Mississippi governors Robert Lowry, who served from 1881 to 1889, and Anselm McLaurin, who served from 1896 to 1900. Also buried here are postmaster and surveyor Thomas Shaw, educator Miss Frank Johnson, and pioneering female attorney Susie Blue Buchanan.
