In 1896 Moses Street Jones purchased the property from R.H. Dowdy and wife Fannie B. Dowdy for $2050.00 after the Dowdy had been built in 1895. A new hotel was built in 1909 to replace the Dowdy and was called Hotel Jones. The hotel was renamed Hotel Roxboro in 1935. The building was demolished in 1961 and the present structure was built for Rose's Department Store. Remodeling was done in 2008 to accommodate Person County Tax Office and Register of Deeds. The property is still owned by the descendants of Moses Street Jones.
