Skillet Glacier lies on the eastern cliffs of Mount Moran in Grand Teton National Park, one of twelve glaciers remaining in the park and one of five on Mount Moran. Visible from Jackson Hole, it takes its name from a shape that resembles a skillet, beginning as a narrow strip high on the slope and widening abruptly into a broader mass. The glacier is important in the climbing history of Mount Moran because the Skillet Glacier route was used for the mountain’s first ascent in 1922 and is considered the fastest and one of the easiest summit routes. In 1950, a DC-3 crashed near the glacier, killing all 21 aboard.
