Bond Park, formally Fred G. Bond Metro Park, is Cary’s largest municipal park, a 310-acre recreation area built around Bond Lake near the town’s center. Its landscape began with a 1970 earth dam on Crabtree Creek that created a reservoir and buffer zone, later developed by Cary into a public park that opened in 1985 and was named for former mayor and council member Fred Bond. Expanded by additional land donations, it grew into a major civic space with trails, athletic fields, picnic areas, a boathouse, amphitheater, community facilities, and wildlife habitat. Today it combines recreation, public events, and preserved woodland and water.
