This area was a growing, working city where a rock-quarrying tent camp expanded into a town of more than fifty buildings before collapsing after two years. In 1874, Granite City moved closer to a new source of stone farther up the canyon, and the community of Wasatch was established. Wasatch still stands today, and some families' Utah history began here through living or working in Granite City or Wasatch.
