Fort Allen was erected by Colonel Benjamin Franklin in the winter of 1758 at the order of the Province of Pennsylvania. The fort, consisting of two blockhouses and a well surrounded by a stockade, stood 201 feet southwest of this spot. It served as a supply base and a rendezvous for troops during the French and Indian Wars, and the well is the fort's only remaining trace.
