William O'Brien State Park was established in 1945 when Alice O'Brien donated 180 acres to the State of Minnesota in memory of her father, William O'Brien, a pioneer lumberman. Her foresight and generosity helped preserve this park on the St. Croix River for future generations to enjoy.
