Two citizens of Elizabethtown were posthumously awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor, the nation’s highest military award, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity in action at the risk of their lives above and beyond the call of duty: Second Lieutenant Robert Dale Reem, U.S.M.C., Company H, 3rd Battalion, 1st Marine Division (Reinforced), in the vicinity of Chinhung-Ni, Korea, on 6 November 1950; and Sergeant William D. Port, U.S.A., Company C, 5th Battalion, 1st Air Cav. Division, in Que Son Alley, Heip Duc Province, Republic of Vietnam, on 12 January 1968.
