Stratford Point Light stands at the mouth of the Housatonic River in Stratford, Connecticut, where it continues to guide traffic entering Long Island Sound. Established in 1822 with a 28-foot wooden tower, the station was rebuilt in 1881 as a 35-foot brick-lined cast-iron tower after the original tower and dwelling were razed. The new structure was among the first prefabricated cylindrical lighthouses in the United States, marking an important shift in lighthouse construction. Improved lenses strengthened its service, and automation in 1970 ended manual lightkeeping. With a long succession of keepers and National Register listing in 1990, it remains a significant coastal landmark.
