The Connecticut Audubon Society Coastal Center at Milford Point, established in 1995 in Milford, Connecticut, sits at the mouth of the Housatonic River where it meets Long Island Sound. Occupying the 8.4-acre Smith-Hubbell Wildlife Refuge & Bird Sanctuary beside the larger Charles E. Wheeler Wildlife Management Area, it provides access to barrier beach, tidal salt marsh, tide pool, and coastal dune habitats. These environments support diverse plant and animal life, with more than 300 bird species observed there. The center serves both as a sanctuary and an educational site, using exhibits, live animals, and surrounding habitats to promote understanding and preservation of the Sound’s ecosystem.
