At the Tower House Historic District, Clear Creek meets Crystal and Mill Creeks in a place where prehistory and history converge. For more than 6000 years, this area was home to the Wintu People. Human enterprise and growth later expanded here after gold was discovered in Clear Creek during the mid 1800s. Water connects the history of this place: the streams provided year-round water, relief from the valley’s hot summers, and a dependable source of salmon and other fish, and later their waters irrigated gardens and orchards, quenched horses, and helped mine gold.
