The Empire Fire was a naturally caused wildfire in Yosemite National Park in California in 2017, possibly ignited by lightning. Reported on August 1 near the Badger Pass Ski Area and Bridalveil Creek Campground, it burned 8,094 acres before full containment on November 27. The fire moved through red fir timber, dormant brush, green leaf manzanita, chinquapin brush, and dead and down material. Its greatest effect was on recreation in the park, disrupting access and use for visitors during the months the fire remained active.
