The Science and Technology Education Innovation Center in west St. Petersburg, Florida, grew from a nonprofit founded in 1959 by William Guild and Nell Rodgers Croley into a long-running science museum and educational center on a seven-acre site. Its main building opened in 1966, and for decades it has supported school programs, camps, classes, and field trips, serving about 22,000 children each school year. Its specialized facilities include a marine room, observatory, planetarium, optical lab, and the White Gardens with the Walk of States. In 2019, after the city acquired the property with plans for demolition, local leaders organized a $5.5 million restoration effort.
