The R. W. Lindholm Service Station in Cloquet, Minnesota, was designed by Frank Lloyd Wright, built in 1958, and remains a rare realized piece of his Broadacre City vision. Developed for Ray Lindholm, whose house Wright had designed earlier, it became the only gas station of Wright’s design completed during his lifetime. Its unconventional form includes a cantilevered copper canopy, a glass-walled observation lounge intended as a social center, stepped cement-block service bays, and skylights. Though it never fully became the neighborhood gathering place Wright hoped for, its design influenced later Phillips 66 stations and earned National Register recognition in 1985 for architectural significance.
