Built in 1905, the Bank of Sparks was the city's first bank and served residents and Southern Pacific Railroad workers. Its Romanesque Revival architecture is rare in Sparks and includes a wide stone arch around the front window and various color tones from dark brick and grey stones. The building functioned as a bank until 1950, when the Sparks Bootery moved into the location. That same year, owner Harry Foote added to the rear of the building to make room for a children's clothing store called "The Carousel." Completed in 1955, the front of the addition featured artwork of animals often found on a carousel, and these images are still visible today. Because of its uncommon architecture and long history, the Bank of Sparks was added to the State Register of Historic Places on June 14, 2007.
