At Refugio on March 14, 15, and 16, 1836, soldiers of the Army of Texas were killed in action or captured and afterward slain in the fighting. Sixteen of them are buried here. Those who fell were Amon B. King, Samuel Anderson, William S. Armstrong, Leslie G. H. Brady, James Henry Callison, John H. Colegrove, Thomas Cook, Fields Davis, Jackson Davis, Henry H. Sadock, Lewis C. Gibbs, James Henley, Joel E. Heth, Jesse C. Humphries, Harvey U. Kirk, William R. Johnson, Snead Ledbetter, James B. Murphy, James Murphy, George W. Penny, J.B. Rodgers, Antoine Sayle, William Shelton, William N. Simpson, Gavin H. Smith, John C. Stewart, Robert A. Toler, John Ward, Christopher Winters, and Samuel Wood.
