The Weed Arch is a steel arch that replaced the original concrete arch first erected on this site in 1922. Surface cracks appeared over the years because of a lack of maintenance, and because no blueprints existed, the City considered it unsafe. The arch was torn down in 1963, and removing it by torch took more than three weeks because it had been built throughout with steel railroad track. The landmark expresses the community's commitment to welcoming visitors to the area and stands as a physical symbol of unity, humanity, camaraderie, and the vision and unselfish donations of the individuals, groups, businesses, and service clubs that erected it.
