Mount Eddy, the highest peak in the Trinity Mountains and Trinity County, rises 9,037 feet in northern California within Shasta-Trinity National Forest. West of Mount Shasta, it stands out from the surrounding volcanic landscape because it is formed of Mesozoic ultramafic rock, mainly serpentinized peridotite, and it receives heavy winter snowfall. The peak lies in the protected Mount Eddy Research Natural Area and is ranked as California’s ninth most prominent peak. Its name is tied to Olive Paddock Eddy, though the often-repeated story that she was the first woman to climb Mount Shasta while eight months pregnant is incorrect; that distinction belongs to Harriet Catherine Eddy.
