West Virginia artist David Heatwole created a mural from recycled bottle caps, with help from students, as an homage to surrealism and pointillism and a depiction of René Magritte's 1964 self-portrait The Son of Man; Moorefield artist Ryan Zirk later restored the work. Magritte's painting shows a man in an overcoat and bowler hat standing before a low wall with the sea and a cloudy sky beyond, his face largely hidden by a hovering green apple, while his left arm appears to bend backward at the elbow. Magritte said the partly hidden face reflected a constant tension between what is visible and what remains concealed.
