Cross Orchards Historic Site in Grand Junction, Colorado preserves part of what was once western Colorado’s largest orchard and presents orchard life around the turn of the twentieth century through a working historic farm. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1980, it retains 24 of the orchard’s former 243 acres, which once held 22,000 apple trees. Its farmhouse, workers’ bunkhouse, blacksmith shop, orchard, and vintage equipment reveal both domestic life and the labor of fruit growing. Railroad exhibits, including recreated depot buildings and Uintah Railway cars, connect orchard agriculture to the transportation and regional industry that sustained it.
