Interest in colonial American architecture began with the Philadelphia Centennial in 1877 and inspired the Colonial Revival style, which spread nationwide when new printing methods in the late 1890s made photographs in periodicals widely available. Built between 1903 and 1909, this home is representative of that revival, defined by a porch spanning the front, Tuscan columns, narrow clapboard siding, and strict overall symmetry that draw upon classical lines and simple details. Halbert and Marilla Iseminger moved to Kalispell from their rural farm and purchased the property in 1908, and Halbert Iseminger Jr. was living there by 1909. The senior Isemingers owned the Men’s Fashion Shop, where Halbert Jr. and some of their seven children also worked, and various family members lived at this address until 1923. After that, World War I Navy veteran John Graham and his bride, Elsie, bought the property; Graham owned a local furniture and appliance business, they raised their son there, and after Elsie’s death in 1955, Graham remained in the home until 1967.
