Boone County Historical Society
History
1
Founded in 1924 in Columbia, Missouri, the Boone County Historical Society grew from a local collecting organization into the Boone County History and Culture Center, a campus combining museum, art, archive, and preservation work. Major expansion in 1989 and 1990 created the Walters-Boone County Museum, and a 1993 addition established the Montminy Art Gallery. Its collections preserve Boone County history through artifacts, records, photographs, newspaper archives, and Civil War materials, while its campus also includes historic buildings such as the Maplewood House and structures in the Village of Boone Junction. Together these resources keep local history, art, and community life closely connected.
