In 1839, a group of seekers after God's truth gathered to found Norvell Community Baptist Church. Its thirty charter members first met in the Norvell Plains School and built the present church in 1871, making it a historic site in Jackson County. The ringing of the original bell still calls worshipers together each Sunday, and the church also serves as the only church building in the community. Now, as in 1839, the membership gathers to study, worship, and serve God.
