In 1893 a fuel house was erected to store kerosene for the light, in keeping with a U.S. Lighthouse Service requirement that the highly flammable fuel be stored separately. In 1910 the current concrete fuel house replaced the original, and two circular air vents on the south side allow air to circulate through the building and reduce flammable vapors. This is also the approximate site of a former boat house with a large pier extending into the lake, which the keepers used with a boat to obtain supplies. Severe waves and weather eventually destroyed both the boat house and the pier, though the pier pilings remain under water.
