Mount Spokane, a 5,887-foot peak northeast of Spokane in eastern Washington, is the highest point in Spokane County and one of the taller summits in the Inland Northwest. Known as Mount Baldy until 1912, it still bears a prominent bald spot on its west and south slopes. The mountain is encircled by Mount Spokane State Park, Washington’s largest state park at 13,919 acres, which makes it a major part of the region’s outdoor landscape. Nearby Mount Kit Carson, the county’s second-highest peak, lies just east and has limited prominence. Mount Spokane also hosts a ski and snowboard park on its southwest side.
