Fairplay
History

Fairplay was named by pioneer miners to express their determination for equal opportunity and fair dealing. Captain John C. Fremont and Kit Carson visited the site in 1844. The Fairplay diggings were organized and mining laws were enacted in April 1860. Fairplay has been the seat of Park County since 1867. A stone courthouse was erected in 1874.
