Among the nearly 18,000 men to ever play Major League Baseball, Hall of Famer Lou Brock is ranked among the top 100 players of all time. He was the 14th of 25 players to achieve 3,000 lifetime hits in a career. His Major League Baseball career spanned 19 years, with his first three years spent with the Chicago Cubs and his next 17 stellar years with the St. Louis Cardinals, where he became one of the greatest players in Major League Baseball history. Brock batted .375 in six All-Star Games and played in three World Series. He set many World Series, Major League Baseball, and St. Louis Cardinals records, including co-holding the record for most hits in a 7-game World Series with 13 hits, holding the records for most hits in back-to-back World Series with 25 hits, highest World Series batting average at .391 in 21 or more World Series games, most stolen bases in a 7-game World Series with 7, and most stolen bases in back-to-back World Series with 14. He was one of two players to hit a lead-off home run in a World Series game, held National League records for most stolen bases in a season with 118 and in a career with 938, and held St. Louis Cardinals World Series records for most home runs with 4 and for most runs, hits, doubles, and triples. Brock was inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 1985 on the first ballot. The St. Louis Cardinals dedicated the Lou Brock Hall of Fame statue at Busch Stadium in St. Louis. He is the only player in Major League Baseball history to have an award named for him while still a player: the Lou Brock Award, given each year to the National League player with the most stolen bases. A math major at Southern University in Baton Rouge, La., Brock is considered one of Major League Baseball's finest ambassadors.
