This site was part of Corte Madera de Novato, granted by Governor Juan Alvarado to John Martin in 1840 and purchased by Jefferson A. Thompson in 1865. It was a working ranch and cheese-making family enterprise for five generations that continued to make the world famous Rouge et Noir brand cheese, standing as a tribute to the dairy industry.
